MOMs has so much to celebrate this time of year: We’ve got our new Waldorf store’s grand opening tomorrow through Sunday. After a tricky planning & setting phase, and major storm threats, we’re thrilled to have the support of the community in getting this store off the ground! We cracked the doors today so drop in if you’re in the neighborhood!
We had a lot of fun for Halloween, which was a bit of a surprise since we were braced for the storm, and as it turns out, many people were able to pull together some fun costumes for our costume contest. Even the Waldorf crew that was hard at work setting up displays were decked out in fanciful attire!
Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and we enjoy this holiday so much because of the food, of course. Its a time when our customers and employees pull out their family recipes, stock up on traditional foods, and spend a lot of time in the kitchen cooking with their families. We always meet new customers this time of year, mostly those that are seeking spectacular ingredients and end up in our aisles, relieved to finally find them.
The turkey orders have started and the deadline will be Sat Nov 17th. Pick-up of pre-ordered turkeys will be on Mon Nov 19, Tues Nov 20, and Wed Nov 21. The turkey order period is a bonding experience in the stores, with employees banding together to fine-tune processes, and learning all the locations of unique holiday ingredients.
On a not-so happy note, we were disappointed to see Prop 37 get shot down in California. This would have been an important step in educating consumers about the food they buy, and giving them the choice to avoid or support GMO ingredients at the shelf. Our consolation is that our customers & employees vote every day on this issue – in the purchases they make – by choosing certified organic foods!
We’ve got some great holiday gifts coming in to the stores this season, including Big Dipper Wax Works candles, which are surely the best candles available anywhere in the world! Also, check out new designs of the wool-felt ornaments and fair trade goodies from Tibet Collection, sourced from refugee-artisan cooperatives and organizations in Nepal. You’ll see some new designs from Greenfield Paper Company on their ever-popular Grow-a-Note cards, which will sprout with just a little water and sun in the Spring, and are made from recycled paper with seeds embedded.
Here’s to a great season! *Clink*
